Living in New York has been a dream of mine since high school. There’s just so much activity and possibility. When I was deciding which college to attend, I had offers from NYU and Wash U. It was a difficult decision, but I ultimately chose Wash U because living on a campus was an experience that would never happen again. Living in New York again would be easy, so I thought.
Four years of St. Louis made me really appreciate New York even more. There are charming parts of St. Louis, but it really wasn’t the right fit for me. Halfway through college, I realized that breaking out of St. Louis to move into startups would be a serious challenge.
Somehow I managed to get out to San Francisco. It wasn’t a permanent solution, but I didn’t want to always wonder what living and working in San Francisco was like. Once again, my New York dreams were on hold.
Fast forward to a year ago. I had wrapped up my college startup and was starting at VTS. I finally had a stable job after a year of chaos and trepidation. It was a tremendous learning experience, but not something I want to dive back into without the right parameters.
It’s been an amazing year filled with highs, lows, elation, lessons, accomplishments, failures, and everything in between. I feel like I started hitting stride recently. Here’s to one year and hopefully many more.
